Country House Garden, Ilkley

The extensive gardens to this listed property required enhancement through new planting, and the introduction of natural materials in keeping with the house as well as the total re-design of some areas.

An edging of Dianthus 'Doris' (Pinks) along the path from the kitchen door give a cottage garden feel.

The lower section of the formal garden was excavated to accommodate a new garden room. Dry stonewalling was used to form the new terraces. The new arch through the existing curved wall provides a path to the meadow.

The front garden borders were redesigned to give interest throughout the year using mixed perennials, specimen shrubs and low box edging.

At the back of the house, a dated rockery with dilapidated steps was replaced with an elegant grass terrace providing a more welcoming approach to the back door.

A strong visual connection between the house and garden was achieved by lining up the new curved wall on the new hall staircase window.

The dark tarmac was replaced with reclaimed setts – light coloured for the main areas with dark setts as an edging feature.
