The inaccessible front lawn was replaced bay a simple panel of reclaimed sett paving, centered on the house, to make a low maintenance, formal front town garden.
Formal Town Garden, Ilkley
The client wanted to convert the sloping drive into a courtyard style sitting area, this being the only area of sun at the rear of the house. The front garden required a complete transformation too, to replace collapsing retaining walls, steps and overgrown planting.
A bespoke 'gothic' arch links the former drive to the back garden. The garage was retained for storage.
The sloping drive was terraced to make a series of level paved spaces, softened with planting.
Painted trellis panels provide a screened area for the bins. A cream colour was chosen to lighten the space.
The side gate was designed to reflect the 'Gothic Style' architectural detailing over the front door.
A new stone wall and shallow steps replaced the collapsing retaining wall, making the front garden more open and accessible.
